Invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) can become fatal within a matter of hours after the onset of symptoms.

WATCH OUT FOR THESE SYMPTOMS

Early symptoms can be hard to distinguish because they can be similar to those of the flu. However, meningitis B* can progress quickly, and symptoms may include, among others:

Headache icon

Severe headache

Fever icon

Sudden high fever

Stiff neck icon

Stiff neck

Additional symptoms may include: drowsiness, irritability, nausea, vomiting, light sensitivity, purpuric rash.


Those who have these symptoms or have been in close contact with someone who has meningitis B should contact their healthcare provider immediately.

How to help prevent meningitis B

Meningitis B can be prevented by immunization. Even if you or your child received a meningitis vaccine, there may be missing coverage for meningitis B.
